Name/Title

Tile: Quilt Eagle (TK)

Description

A three-color silkscreen underglaze print on a white tile blank inspired by an early American applique quilt. At center an American eagle with a patriotic chest shield holds a furling banner in its beak. Below, another banner is emblazoned with a partial phrase from the Declaration of Independence, “Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness”. Below are thirteen red six-point stars representing the original thirteen states of the union. This design is from the late 1950’s, but this example is recolored and printed on the thinner tile body used by Country Prints/Ceramo Studio from 1962 onward. See previous entry for comparison.
