Description

A preliminary pencil sketch on trace paper of the design for Bob and Peg Wert’s 1947 Christmas greeting, the first silkscreen printed greeting produced by Country Prints in its inaugural home in Northfield, Massachusetts. The finished print varies greatly from the pencil sketch, but a comparison illustrates how the design changed, both in format and in composition while retaining major design elements. Sara Leeper notes the threaded candle stand in the sketch and the finished print was actually designed and made in wood by Bob Wert, with ceramic bobeches at the base of each candle. The bobeches were also made by Bob.
