Placemat: a three-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting early American kitchen tools superimposed with Wert’s interpretation of calico print patterns.
Napkin: one-color silkscreen print of repeated oval dots in black on solid color linen.
This set appears in the c.1955 brochure “Country Prints Mat Sets and Luncheon Squares by Robert Darr Wert”. A matching tablecloth and tile were also produced; see images.
This set is described in a c.1955 Country Prints price list, “(New) E. A. [Early American] Kitchenware shapes done in a great variety of old printed calicos. Barn Red or Spice Brown with solid matching napkins dotted all over with Black. Apron to match, #425 — Tile #21.”
