Towel, Wallhanging: Country Tin 206, c.1954Description
A Country Prints production sample retained as a print record.
A six-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting an early American painted hutch with open shelves displaying twenty six examples of painted tinware in base colors of red, black, green, and yellow.
The hutch itself is an example of painted wood cabinetry in yellow ochre and teal, with the central door of the base cabinet featuring a painting of an American eagle unfurling a “LIBERTY” banner with stars at either end.
This print was marketed for use as a kitchen towel, wallhanging, or table runner, and is described on a c.1955 Country Prints price list, “Painted Tin motifs from authentic references — correct colors.”
The price list also states, “Pure Linen Kitchen Runners and Towels, Nice enough to “Hang” or Frame — in fact we now offer any of these framed in a flat early black frame at $10.00.”
This design was recolored and offered as a framed print c.1960; see images.
A matching framed print and tile were also produced.Made/Created
