Description

A four-color silkscreen underglaze print on a white tile blank depicting four hens superimposed with Wert’s interpretation of calico print patterns. A trailing vine with heart shaped blossoms finishes the composition. This c.1956 design replaced the c.1955 Hens T-2 tile, and is a pair with the c.1956 Rooster T-1 tile; see images. This tile appears in the c.1956 brochure “Country Prints Tiles designed by Robert Darr Wert”; see images.

Design, screen production, and mixing of colored underglazes performed at the Country Prints workshop, Gill, MA. Screen printing of underglaze colors, clear glaze, firing and finishing by Ceramo Studio, NYC. This design is printed on the thicker tile body used by Country Prints/Ceramo Studio prior to 1962.
