Description

A four-screen/five-color silkscreen underglaze print on a white tile blank depicting the herb marjoram, the origin of its name, suggestions for its use, and its latin name. Text reads, “MARJORAM, from the greek “joy of the mountain”, for all meat dishes and soup with beef stock, spaghetti sauce, eggs - salads, chicken - spinach and tomatoes, similar are oregano and pot marjoram. Majorana hortensis”. This tile appears in the brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Print Tiles”, c.1960; see images. This design is printed on the thicker tile base used by Country Prints/Ceramo Studio prior to 1962. Design, screen production, and mixing of colored underglazes performed at the Country Prints workshop, Gill, MA. Screen printing of underglaze colors, clear glaze, firing and finishing by Ceramo Studio, NYC.
