Wallhanging, Plowshares: Christmas, Three Kings 706Description
A Plowshares wallhanging with a five-color silk screen print on off-white linen depicting the three kings from the story of Jesus’ birth. The kings stand, kneel and sit around the manger. The seated king has his hand on a lamb (the lamb of god). A radiant halo hovers above the manger; a fourteen pointed Christmas star is to the right of the standing king.
This is a 1960’s reinterpretation of an earlier Three Kings wallhanging produced by Country Prints in the late 1950’s. See separate entry.
This wallhanging appears in the brochures “Fall and Christmas, Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints”, 1964, “Country Prints by Robert Darr Wert and Neighbors”, c.1966, and several other brochures in the 1960’s; see images.
Plowshares is Country Prints’ line of narrow wallhangings, typically 8” x 24”, the majority of which are Christian in theme. Each came with a hand printed gift mailer.
Top edge is hemmed to receive a dowel for hanging. Remaining three edges are serged and bound with an overlock stitch.Made/Created
