Description

A four-color silkscreen print on natural linen depicting baked breads, wheat stalks, and the tools and implements for baking breads. At lower center, printed on the face of two wooden bins, is a line from the Lord’s Prayer: “Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread”, a recurrent theme in Wert’s work. At various times, this runner was also available in blue, and in 52” and 72” lengths. This table runner appears in the c.1953 brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints Kitchen Hangings”, listed in two sizes: 17” x 52” (this example), and 17” x 72”; see images. Edges are straight stitched and fringed. A matching tablecloth, muffin cloth, Gift Greeting and tile were also produced; see images.
