Name/Title

Wallhanging, Christmas: Bell Hanging 721

Description

A wallhanging with a four-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting an angel holding candles aloft, clothed in a fanciful interpretation of eighteenth century dress. The angel’s garb is almost a take-off on the American flag, with a pink and white apron and a blue dress covered in a field of five pointed stars. Below the angel, in large serifed type, is “NOEL”. The lower edge of the wallhanging is cut to a point, with a small silver jingle bell stitched to the tip. This Bell Hanging appears in the brochure “Fall and Christmas 1965, Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints”, and the c.1966 brochure “Country Prints by Robert Darr Wert and Neighbors”; see images. Top edge is hemmed to receive a dowel for hanging, remaining edges are serged and bound.
