Print: Country Life 57-3, Harvest (TK)Description
This print is from the Country Life 57-3 series Country Prints produced as framed prints as well as Country Print Notes notecards. The prints were produced with and without mats. This example is matted with brown paper with printed borders in brown and black.
A six-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting a farmer holding a scythe. Symbols of the harvest surround the farmer: a shock of wheat, a bundle of dried corn, a jug for cider, a sheep, the harvest moon, and symbols of the zodiac (a reference to the Farmers’ Almanac).
This example varies from other known framed Country Prints in that the frame is essentially a box with the print and mat face-glued to the box bottom. The corners of the frame are box joined rather than mitered, and the back panel is a piece of wood that is integral to the frame, rather than inset cardboard like later studio frames. An early Country Prints story card printed in black and brown on tan cardstock is affixed to the back.Made/Created
