Name/Title

Strike-Off: Buttermolds

Description

A strike-off of a possible fabric yardage design based on two c.1949 placemat sets, Buttermold 113 and Buttermold 117. The columns of square buttermolds are from the Buttermold 113 placemat. The randomly placed buttermold designs are taken from the placemat and napkin of Buttermold 117. This likely dates to the early 1950’s when Wert was experimenting with offering fabric yardage and the silo of the workshop was used to dry lengths of printed fabric. This one panel is made of two narrow panels stitched together vertically. A rod pocket at the top edge allowed it to be used as a doorway curtain in the Country Prints workshop.
