Gift Greeting 330: #6 PartridgeDescription
A six-screen/seven color print on off-white linen depicting a Pennsylvania “Dutch” couple on the first day of Christmas, from the traditional Christmas carol “The Twelve Days of Christmas”.
The man is presenting the woman a pear tree in a green wooden tub. The woman reaches out to touch the partridge sitting on a branch. A lute and an early oboe are seen on the ground between them, denoting the musical origins of the scene. The backdrop is decorated with five-pointed stars. At the base of the design is the first verse of the Twelve Days of Christmas, “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me a partridge in a pear tree”.
This is a Gift Greeting, Country Prints’ line of unmounted prints available in folded cardstock note folders with envelopes for mailing or gift giving. This design was amongst the first eight Gift Greetings produced by Country Prints as described in a c.1955 price list, “330 Gift Greetings — for our first venture into the exciting greeting card field we have 8 of our very own colorful greetings in linen…”Made/Created
