Name/Title
Towel, Wallhanging: Quilts 203, RedDescription
A Country Prints strike-off with unfinished edges retained as a print record.
A two-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting twelve Pennsylvania “Dutch” appliqué quilt squares. The design is bordered at top and bottom with swags typical of appliqué quilts, and the lower edge bears the title “QUILTS” in hand-drawn type. Subjects of the quilt squares range from fruit, to fowl, to plant life, buildings, and a farm couple.
This design appears on a c.1951 Country Prints packing slip.
A c.1955 Country Prints price list describes this towel/runner, “Authentic appliqué quilt patterns in Red and Blue or Blue and Red on white and Black and Brown on natural.”
The price list also states, “Pure Linen Kitchen Runners and Towels, Nice enough to “Hang” or Frame — in fact we now offer any of these framed in a flat early black frame at $10.00.”
At least four of the square designs were also produced as Country Print Tiles; see images.
This print was reinterpreted as a cross stitch quilt kit by the Bucilla Needlework kit company; see images.
Other print designs of similar form are designated as runners on Country Prints product tags.Made/Created
