Wallhanging, Christmas: Bell Hanging 722Description
A wallhanging with a five-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting an angel singing and playing a lute above a bird, a sheep and a singing sun. A line from the traditional Christmas carol, “Joy to the World”, lyrics by English hymn writer Isaac Watts (see web link), meanders amongst the figures. The sheep represents Jesus, the lamb of god, and the sun represents resurrection. A 7/8” silver jingle bell is attached at the point of the lower hem.
This Bell Hanging appears in the brochures “Fall and Christmas 1965, Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints”, and the c.1966 brochure “Country Prints by Robert Darr Wert and Neighbors”; see images.
