Description

A four-color silkscreen underglaze print on a white tile blank depicting a barnyard with five farm animals in the foreground: horse, cow, bull, pig and rooster. A barn with a cupola and weathervane are attached to a silo bearing a lightning rod. A smaller garage-like farm building is in the foreground. An apple tree stands at upper right. This tile appears in the c.1955 brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Print Tiles”, and the c.1956 brochure “Country Print Tiles designed by Robert Darr Wert”. It was also included in an article about Robert Darr Wert and Country Prints in the arts journal Design in 1955; see images. An unauthorized adaptation of this design was produced by Soriano Ceramics of New York, c.1960; see images. Farm T-7 is a pair with Village T-6; see images.

This tile is printed on the thicker tile body used by Country Prints/Ceramo Studio prior to 1962. Design, screen production, and mixing of colored underglazes performed at the Country Prints workshop, Gill, MA. Screen printing of underglaze colors, clear glaze, firing and finishing by Ceramo Studio, NYC.
