Towel, Calendar: Field and Marsh 502, 1968Description
A five-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting eight game birds in the wild, a sign labeled “1968” and a birdhouse on a post.
The artwork for this calendar was developed by an unknown freelance artist with the initials, “ES”, c.1965, demonstrating that Wert occasionally hired freelance artists who worked in styles compatible with this own to fill in gaps in the product line. A variant of this design was produced for the Massachusetts Audubon Society in 1965; see images.
The calendar months retain Wert’s quirky filling of empty calendar days with phrases like, “SEED CATALOGS: RESOLVED”, at the end of January.
This calendar towel appears in a 1966 price list, and in brochures for Country Prints calendar towel in 1967 and 1968.Made/Created
