A four-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting three angels, two singing and one trumpeting amongst the words, “GLORIA GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO”, referring to Gloria in Excelsis Deo, known as the Angels Hymn/Hymn of the angels; see web link.
This is a good example of the playfulness Wert gave to many of his compositions. The angels are active, flying to and fro between the type, while singing and playing a horn, giving a sense of depth in an otherwise flat composition. There is also play in the type, with all of the type hand drawn, and the word “IN” spelled out on the back and front covers of the fore angel’s hymnal.
This is a rare example of an unsigned Wert print.
