Placemat: Slipware 116, BrownDescription
This is a Country Prints production sample retained as a print record.
A placemat set with two two-color silkscreened designs on natural linen depicting design elements from early American glazed slipware.
Placemat: four figures grace the yellow field. Clockwise from top left: a rooster, a standing woman holding a bird, a buck, and a figure on horseback. The composition is punctuated with six-point stars and partially bordered with a wavy rick-rack style line.
Napkin: four fields of yellow, each with a different slipware motif. When folded, the different designs enliven the tabletop.
This set appears in a c.1955 Country Prints price list. The price list states, “To match exactly slip decorated pottery or to complement many lines of contemporary table ware. Red, Brown, Clay, Yellow or Green. All earth-like colors on natural linen — printed napkins to match.”
Edges are straight stitched and fringed.Made/Created
