Name/Title
Print: Williamsburg Street Scene 1330-1Description
A four-screen/seven-color silkscreen print on off-white linen depicting seven buildings in Colonial Williamsburg, Williamsburg, Virginia. At center is Bruton Parish Church; see web link. The buildings are illustrated in elevation and three-quarter views interspersed with trees and shrubbery.
This may have been a custom commission for the shops at Williamsburg.
This print is listed in the January 1960 Country Prints price list with a choice of antique birch or flat black frames, and appears in the c.1960 brochure “Country Prints in Frames Designed by Robert Darr Wert”, and is a pair with Williamsburg Palace 1330-2; see images.
In the brochure, the Williamsburg prints appear without Wert/Country Prints signatures. On this example, “wert by hand” is printed in the lower right corner in a different color from the rest of the print, meaning it was applied to the print after the initial print run was completed.Made/Created
