Description

A three-color silkscreen overglaze print on a white glazed tile blank depicting a Pennsylvania “Dutch” couple planting a tree. The woman holds the tree while the man digs. The tree appears to be an apple laden with fruit. Below is a quote from Thomas Fuller, “He who plants a tree loves others besides himself”. In 1732, English minister and physician Thomas Fuller published “Gnomologia: Adagies and Proverbs”, a collection of over 5,000 quotes, including the one found on this tile; see web link.
