Name/Title
Print: Early Birds 516-3 and Folk Patterns 516-2 (TK)Description
A pair of four-color silkscreen prints on off-white linen in black painted pine Country Prints frames.
Early Birds 516-3 print depicts five strutting roosters, four of which are superimposed with Wert’s interpretation of calico print patterns in lieu of feathers. A smiling sun beams from above.
Folk Patterns 516-2 print depicts two female figures, possibly dolls, in long calico print dresses to match two of the roosters in Early Birds 515-3. The figures stand amongst trees and plants in a manner reminiscent of Pennsylvania “Dutch” folk art. A smiling sun shines from above. Both prints have trailing vines terminating in hearts with Wert’s signature at the base.
Early Birds 515-3 print appears in the c.1955 brochure “Country Prints in Frames”, and a c.1955 price list with the description, “Calico birds to pair with 516-2.”
A matching tile and apron were also produced; see images.Made/Created
