Tile, Framed Double: Pot Herbs T-12 & Tea Herbs T-13

Description

A pair of Country Prints tiles, Pot Herbs T-12 and Tea Herbs T-13, in a black painted Country Prints frame, c.1955. The back of the frame reveals tile blanks manufactured by ATCo, and the remnants of a Country Prints label hanger that has been removed. The face of the tiles are flush with the frame face, allowing it to be used as a trivet, and/or hung on the wall as art. Tiles are glued into a rabbet in the frame back.

These examples are printed on the thicker tile base used by Country Prints/Ceramo Studio before 1962. Design, screen production, and mixing of colored underglazes performed at the Country Prints workshop, Gill, MA. Screen printing of underglaze colors, clear glaze and firing by Ceramo Studio, NYC. Frames were manufactured by a wood shop local to Gill, but painted in the Country Prints workshop, where tile framing was also finished.
