Description

A three-color silkscreen underglaze print on a white tile blank depicting five early American carved wood buttermolds and the text, “SOME BUTTER MOLDS”. This tile appears in the c.1955 brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Print Tiles”, and the c.1960 brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints Tiles”; see images. An example of this tile is in the permanent collection of the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse NY; see images. A matching placemat set, towel/wallhanging and tablecloth were also produced; see images.

Design, screen production, and mixing of colored underglazes performed at the Country Prints workshop, Gill, MA. Screen printing of underglaze colors, clear glaze and firing by Ceramo Studio, NYC. This example is printed on the thicker tile base used by Country Prints/Ceramo Studio before 1962.

Front: “wert”, with heart, lower left corner. Back: Country Print Tiles label hanger. Also on back, a hand-written notation in black ink, “10-14-79 $1.50 FM”.
