Name/Title
Notecard, Christmas: Twelve Days 360Description
A series of twelve dye cut notecards bearing six-color silkscreen prints on off-white linen illustrating scenes from the traditional Christmas song, “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. Inside each card is a list of the complete twelve days.
The dye-cut notecards are red with silver flecks, and the Twelve Days insert is silkscreen printed on silver-flecked cream colored paper. Notecards and paper are by Strathmore.
Worth noting, cards one through seven (Partridge through Swans a-Swimming) each give representations of the number of objects for that day. Cards eight through twelve each represent only one of the object for that day, a shorthand way of saying, “Yeah, we know how many of you there are”, and also allowing for the variances the song is known to have on days eight through twelve depending on the period in which the song was published; see web link for song history.
One card from this set (Maids a-Milking) appears in a Nov-Dec 1958 article in Design magazine entitled “Design Your Own Christmas Cards”. The set is also listed on the Christmas 1960 Country Prints price list.Made/Created
