Description

A pair of four-color silkscreen prints on off-white linen, one depicting a rooster and the other a hen. The birds’ feather are expressed as Wert’s interpretation of traditional calico prints This pair appears as Chickens 67-3 in the c.1954 brochure “Country Prints in Frames” and on a c.1955 Country Prints price list as Chickens 57-2 with the description, “Calico Rooster and Hen, Brown and Green with bold Red printed mat.” The rooster print is featured in a cover story about Robert Darr Wert and Country Prints in the magazine Design, 1955; see images.
