Name/Title

Tile: Red Lobster 535

Description

A two-color silkscreen overglaze print on a white tile blank depicting a lobster and two buoys with a rope border. This tile appears in the brochures “Country Prints by Robert Darr Wert and Neighbors”, c.1963 and c.1966; see images. A matching towel/wallhanging and apron were also produced; see links. The artwork for the towel/wallhanging is signed by Massachusetts artist Al Winant, who also likely developed the artwork for the tile and apron (the apron is signed “Winant”). This unsigned example was likely produced by Country Prints’ tile maker, Ceramo Studio, after Bob Wert’s death in 1966. Sometime around 1969, Ceramo purchased a number of Country Prints tile designs and continued producing them without Country Prints identifiers.
