A strike-off for a towel/wallhanging/runner with a one-screen/two-color silkscreen print on white linen depicting stylized espaliered trees or topiaries planted in handled pots, and arranged in a collage-like composition. This print was marketed for use as a kitchen towel, wallhanging, or table runner, and is one of the earliest Country Prints towel designs.
This is a rare example of a Wert towel design that is bi-directional and designed for each side to look the same when hanging on a towel rod. Cleverly, it was designed to be printed from just one screen.
The top and bottom edges are unstitched, and there is slight smudging of the red ink within one topiary, indicating this is likely a strike-off or unfinished production sample that was retained as a print record.
