Description

Entrance to Sunny Slope Farm and hatchery owned by Charles W.Wampler, Sr., poultry pioneer, just north of Dayton, Virginia, on the west side of Rt. 42. The white wooden structure, which has been converted into a school bus stop shelter, was originally built as a brooder house for raising young artificially hatched turkeys. Wampler and daughter Ruth raised 56 young turkeys in this structure in 1926. It is believed to be the first purpose-built brooder house for artificially hatched turkeys in the world.
