John Andrew Switzer, 1837-1909. In 1899, John A. Switzer was Sheriff of Rockingham County and his son Walter C. Switzer was deputy. The Sheriff recognized the need of quick and reliable communication between his office the various parts of the county. He was instrumental in forming the Harrisonburg Mutual Telephoen Company.
