Name/Title

Hetchel / Wood Shredder

Entry/Object ID

1979.39.6

Description

When originally cateloged this was described as a wood shredder for cleaning sheep's wool, wooden cover with nails. This may have been a typo meaning wool shredder. However, this is more likely a flax hetchel. A flax hetchel, also called a hatchel or heckle, is a tool used to comb and separate the long fibers from the flax plant, preparing them for spinning and weaving into linen
