Description
1917-1918 52nd Battalion Lieutenant's service dress jacket made with tan khaki twill wool. On the notched lapels, are two General Service "CANADA" collar badges (3 x 3 cm) with a brown wash finish. The shoulder straps are closed with a brass Canada General Service button (2 cm diameter) and a "CANADA" badge (5.5 cm wide). The front button placket is closed with four football leather buttons (2.4 cm diameter). There are four scalloped flap box-pleated pockets closed with football leather buttons (2 cm diameter), two on the breast and two on the hips. A watch pocket is just underneath the right breast pocket. On the shoulders are 3rd Division French blue shoulder patches. The worsted sleeve rank with two pips denotes a Lieutenant. On the back is two brass belt hooks, one on either side of the side seam.
The lining is made of a striped green silk. A hanging loop is sewn to the centre back of the collar. There is one slash pocket on the left breast. The sleeves are lined with a twill cotton or linen.
Context
Owned by Lieutenant Milne Dermont Evans who was part of the 181st Overseas CEF and then transferred to the 52nd CEF battalion. He was discharged after being deemed medically unfit for asthma.
