Description
1939-1945 Canadian Volunteer Service Medal w/overseas bar. A silver (.800) circular medal. The obverse contains seven figures: three males that represent the Canadian Army, Navy, and Air Force, three women that represent the Women's Corps in the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and another female that represents the Nursing Sisters. Around these seven figures is the title "1939 Canada 1945" on the top half and "Voluntary Service Volontaire" on the bottom half with a maple leaf on each side of "Service". The reverse contains the Coat of Arms of Canada. Suspender is a holed straight bar. Ribbon is green, red, and blue and measures 3.2 cm x 5.6 cm. In the middle of the ribbon is a silver rectangular bar with a maple leaf in the centre of it. Medal is court-mounted in a group of 16 medals.
Use
The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal was awarded to Canadian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Merchant Marine personnel for 18 months of voluntary service between 2 September 1939 and 1 March 1947. The Overseas Service Bar was awarded for 60 days of service outside of Canada.
