Description
1942-1945 Canadian Chaplain's Corps service dress cap made of khaki green barathea wool. The body is four-piece construction with two brown ventilation grommet holes on either side on the body. The cap band and body at the front are stiffened. On the front of the cap is a badge (3.6 cm x 4.5 cm) made of blackened brass denoting the Canadian Chaplains Corps. The badge depicts a crown over a cross in front of a laurel wreath. Each side of the laurel wreath is of a different foliage. The centre of the badge reads "IN THIS SIGN CONQUER." A painted black leather chin strap (1.6 cm wide x 31.5 cm long) is attached to the cap band with a Chaplain Corps button (1.8 cm diameter) made of blackened brass on either side of the head. The chin strap is made adjustable with sliders. The peak is stiffened.
The cap is lined with brown silk satin. Over the silk crown lining is a translucent layer of film discoloured orange. The peak is lined with the same material as the facing. The sweatband is a dull medium brown leather (5 cm wide). The cap band stiffener of wicker is visible at the front when the sweatband is pulled back.
