Winslow Mortimer pen/ink cartoon entitled "Private on Guard Duty, Private Signalling." This cartoon has two drawings of the same character. In the drawing on the left the soldier is standing guard while holding an umbrella. It appears to be raining quite a lot, and he is shown standing ankle deep in water or mud. His rifle, bayonet attached, is held in his right hand and resting on the ground. He is wearing a rain coat that comes to mid-calf and his helmet.
In the drawing on the right, the soldier is holding two white flags and signalling to an unknown person. His right arm is raised to 45 degrees and his left arm is held straight out at shoulder height. The cartoon is not signed.Made/Created
