Description

1942-1945 Royal Canadian Navy Lieutenant-Commander's battledress jacket made of black twill wool. Top stitched with contrasting dark grey thread. Single breasted with four steel buttons (1.5 cm) painted black. Two shoulder epaulettes decorated with three lines of gold lace and a Canadian Royal Navy button (1.5 cm). The epaulettes are sewn into place and secured with rectangular black leather straps. On the lapels are stitch marks for missing mid shipman patches (4.5 x 6 cm). Four ribbons are over the left breast. Two large breast scalloped pockets (19 cm long x 16 cm wide), one on either side of the jacket closed with a black steel button (1.5 cm). The bottom hem of the jacket is adjustable with a buckle on the right side that uses a built in fabric belt made of the same material of the jacket. The cuffs of the sleeve close with a single black steel button on either side (1.5 cm). The inside is unlined, but the front button placket, the jacket hem, the pockets, and the cuffs are re-enforced with a dark grey twill made of cotton or linen. On either side of the inner lining of the jacket is a patch pocket accessed from the side near the front placket. The left inner patch pocket has the stitch marks for a missing patch.
