Description
1939-1945 Canadian Army officer's identity disc "Captain H.G.G. Tolchard." Octagonal brown-green pressed paper/vegetable compound. Stamped one side: "CAPT H G G TOLCHARD C E CDN" Holed at top and bottom for 36 cm. Long looped white cotton string. Joined to other identity disc (1998.35.1).
Use
Identity discs, or more colloquially known as "dog tags," were used to identify active-duty soldiers. They bear information such as name, blood type, service number, rank, and oftentimes, religion.
