A 1918 Great War service khaki floppy cap made from wool. The top is flattened and has a front visor. An adjustable leather chin strap connects to two chinstrap bottoms on both sides. In the center of the cap is a bronze maple leaf 4th Canadian Machine Gun Battery cap badge with a King's crown. It reads "M4G Canada," and a machine gun is stationed in the center of the cap badge. The interior contains a mahogany stiched fabric lining.Context
See 1918-1919 8th Battalion officer's service dress cap for context. Footnote: Formed in Belgium in 1915, the 4th Canadian Machine Gun was led by Captain J. Edwards. It was attached to the 4th Canadian Division and fought at Lens-St. Emile and Hill 70 sectors. By 1918, It comprised 96 machine guns, 63 officers, and 1495 other ranks.
