Description

1899-1901 South Africa War Medal, bars "Cape Colony", "Orange Free State" to Lt. Colonel S. Hughes, Staff. Circular, silver. Obverse a crowned bust of Queen Victoria with title "Victoria Regina Et Imperatrix." Reverse is title "South Africa" and figure of Britannia holding a Union flag and laurel wreath. In background are ships and soldiers. Plain, straight swivelling suspender with tow claw. Two bars on suspender: "Cape Colony" "Orange Free State" both 3.5 mm. x 3.5 cm. Ribbon is orange centre with edge stripes blue and red.
