1916-1918 Military Medal, to SJT.MORRISON 3:CAN:INF. A circular silver medal, usually 36mm in diameter. The medal itself is attached to an ornate scroll suspender. The ribbon is dark blue, about 1.25 inches wide, and is embedded with five colors: white, red, white, red, and white. The five colors are about 0.125 inches wide. The front of the medal shows King George V in a Field Marshal's uniform, facing left. The inscription at the front reads, "GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:" The back of the medal says, "For Bravery In The Field." It is surrounded by a laurel wreath, Royal Cypther, and Imperial Crown.Context
Established by the British in 1916, the Military Medal was awarded to service members of the British Army and Dominion forces who showed bravery on land. Specifically, it was given to those who showed “acts of gallantry and devotion to duty under fire." It was usually given to the rank and file.
