Description
1918 16th Canadian Light Horse officer's "Gor'Blimey" service dress cap made of khaki green barathea wool. The crown is circular and attached to a two-piece body. The stitching is a double layer of contrasting lighter khaki thread. Pinned to the body is a brass cap badge (5.4 cm x 4 cm) denoting the 16th Light Horse. It depicts a male moose with laurels on either side of the body. Below, on a scroll, reads "FOR KING AND EMPIRE." The cap band is stiffened and made with two-piece construction. A dark brown leather chin strap (32 cm x 1 cm) is attached to the cap band on either side with a King's Royal Rifle button (1.3 cm diameter). The chin strap is made adjustable with leather sliders. The ear/neck flap is flipped onto the cap band and is connected in the centre front with a leather strap (19 cm x 1.5 cm adjusted to the second tightest setting) and a black D-ring buckle (2.5 cm x 2 cm). The peak is stiffened.
The inside crown and body is lined with deep blue silk fabric. The ear/neck flap is lined with khaki green cotton or linen. The sweatband is made of reddish-brown roan leather.
