Description

1916 Canadian Expeditionary Forces 118th Infantry Battalion Lieutenant's Breeches made of brown khaki whipcord wool. Five plastic buttons (1.5 cm) close the hidden fly. Two are black, and three are brown of various shades and patterns. The waistband (3.5 cm wide) has six belt loops (5.5 cm long x 1.5 cm wide). The back of the waistband is raised to form a double peak with two decorative brown buttons (1.5 cm) to the centre of either peak. Two reversed scalloped pockets with a brown button (1.5 cm) closure. One scalloped watch pocket on the right waistband closed with a brown button (1.5 cm). The hem of the legs are closed with a lacing placket (23 cm long) with nine brass grommets (painted brown) (1 cm) on either side. They are closed with one long, brown lacing tape fixed with a silver coloured aglet. The lacing placket and hem are finished with a contrasting tan twill tape folded to be 5 cm thick. On the back, are two scalloped pockets, each closed with a brown button (1.5 cm) of different shades of brown and patterns. The inside is unlined. Stripped brown cotton or silk is used to reenforce the waistband on the inside. A hidden pocket on the left side of the waistband is closed with a single brown button (1.5 cm). On either side of the front inner waistband are two brown buttons (1.7 cm).

Context

Canadian Expeditionary Forces 118th (North Waterloo) Infantry Battalion never served as a group and were absorbed throughout various CEF units.
