Description

4 1/2 X 6 1/22 inch black/white photograph "Captain Arthur Howard, 1885." Detail shows Howard in waist-high portrait, bareheaded, in American Army double-breasted jacket, insignia of Gold wire epaulettes (machine-gun badges) aigulettes. He wears an American Army Infantry sword and curiously holds a Queens' Own Rifles Busby in his lap.

Context

Howard served as technical advisor Toronto Infantry School 1883-1885. Action at Batoche May 1885. As Lieutenant in Royal Canadian Dragoons served in South Africa - Leewburg - Belfast - Witpoort: 1899-1900. Raised Canadian Scouts (M.G. Section) January 1901. Killed in Derby, South Africa February 17, 1901.
