Use

A circular silver medal and is 1.42 inches in diameter. For mounting, there is a plain, straight, non-swiveling suspender with a single-toe claw. On one side is King George V, facing left, and with the inscription 'GEORGIVS V BRITT : OMN : REX ET IND : IMP :' The reverse side includes a horseman, St. George, armed with a sword. The horse stamps over a Prussian shield, skull, and cross-bones. On the upper right side of the medal is the sun of Victory. The dates 1914 and 1918 appear on the left and right side of the medal.

Context

The British War Medal was given to all Canadian overseas military personnel who served in the Great War between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918 or in any theatre of war. Canadians who served in the Overseas Military Forces of Canada (OMFC) in the United Kingdom and did not serve in a theatre of war were not given the medal.
