A Great War service khaki floppy cap with a flattened top and front visor. The cap is made from wool cloth. Attached is an adjustable leather chinstrap connected to two chinstrap buttons on both sides of the cap. In the center of the cap is a 4th Overseas Siege Battery cap badge. On the interior, the sweatband is leather, and the liner also appears to be leather.Context
See 1918-1919 8th Battalion officer's service dress cap for context. Footnote: The 4th Canadian Siege Battery was organized in October 1915 under the leadership of Major L.W. Barker. It recruited its members from New Brunswick and mobilized at Partridge Island, Saint John, New Brunswick. The 4th Battery consisted of six officers and 212 ranks. It left Halifax for the UK on April 5, 1916. The 4th Battery arrived in France on July 31, 1917. It was demobilized at Saint John in May 1919 and disbanded on November 1, 1920.
