Description

1812-1815 Canadian Militia Pattern 1796 Light Cavalry sabre. The pommel, back piece, ear, langet, guard and quillon are brown nickel plated steel. The grip is a painted black wood. The grip has one rectangular slash towards the pommel. The fuller (68 cm long) is asymmetrically placed towards the back of the blade. The blade is curved and single edged.

Use

Carried from a waistbelt. Part of a set with a matching scabbard.

Context

One of the first swords in the British army to be produced under the Board of Ordnance.
