Description

1916-18 British Army No.15 "cricket ball" hand grenade. An iron ball hand grenade with a fuse cast and the top is flattened with a hole for injecting the fuse.

Context

Used by the British during the Great War, the No. 15 "cricket ball" hand grenade was a time-fused grenade. The user had to remove the covering that concealed the fuse to light it. The user then struck the external Brock matchhead igniter against the fuse. There were two types of fuses: the five-second and the nine-second.
