Description

1917-1918 British Expeditionary Forces/Canadian Expeditionary Forces Brodie Helmet Hessian camouflage cover made of a single layer of brown burlap. The cover is circular. On the edges of the cover, twine is woven into the burlap to create an adjustable drawn string. The cover is unlined.

Use

Worn over top of steel "Brodie" helmets by British Expeditionary Forces/Canadian Expeditionary Forces during World War One to camouflage soldiers when they emerged from the trenches. Mud would be smeared onto the helmet to aid the camouflage.
