Description

1918-1919 8th Battalion (Winnipeg Rifles "Little Black Devils") officer's service dress cap. Khaki green fine napped wool crown, (wire stiffener), body (2 brass reinforced grommet holes each side), cap band. Attached to cap is Battalion cap badge in blackened silver, scrolled title HOSTI ACIE NOMINATI and gilt devil device, badge is 4 cms. square. Mid-brown leather chinstrap (w/adjustable sliders) (31.2 cm long x 1 cm wide), attached to the cap by two brass CANADA buttons. Stiffened peak in the same material. The crown and body of the cap is lined with a diamond quilted light brown and green silk. The peak underside is lined in light green ribbed "fabricoid" or celluloid. The sweatmade is made of a light brown leather (56 cm circumference x 5.5 cm wide).
