1942-1945 American/Canadian Army Armoured Regiment M38 tanker's helmet. The outer shell and rear neck guards are made of a green fibre resin. Across the top of the steel is a band (30 cm long x 1.5 cm wide) made of green leather held in place by two black metal rivets (1.3 cm diameter) on either side of the helmet and one metal rivet (1 cm diameter) on the crown. Ten holes (2 cm diameter) are punched into the top of the shell. There are four black rivets on rear neck guard. A green leather padded headphone clamp is on either side of the head. The ear flaps are made with green leather and the same green fibre resin as the shell. The ear flaps have a hole on the outside (3.5 cm diameter) and the inside (3 cm long x 1.5 cm wide). The inside of the flaps are cushioned with a white wool felt. The two ear flaps and the rear neck guard is connected with a green and red trimmed elastic web (38 cm long x 2.5 cm wide when relaxed). The inside lining is made of a tan leather. The suspension system on the inside consists of four panels of leather connected with a white cotton cord at the inner crown.Context
