Commanded by Major W. J. Morrison, the Eaton Motor Machine Gun Battery was formed in January 1915. Sir John Eaton spent $100,000 to purchase “quick-firing machine guns mounted on armoured trucks." It recruited its members throughout Toronto and left Montreal on June 4, 1915. The Eaton unit arrived in England on June 13. Its members included 24 officers and 264 ranks, mostly motor mechanics, drivers, and athletes. The Eaton unit arrived in France on February 25, 1916, and was attached to the 3rd Canadian Division. It was eventually absorbed by the 2nd Canadian Motor Machine Gun Brigade on June 8, 1918. After the war, it disbanded on November 15, 1920.
